This week: Jesus walks on water and saves Peter when he begins to sink. Matthew 14:22-33
APRIL 3RD PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM
"I am with you always.” Matthew 28:20, NIV
Bottom Line: Jesus wants to be my friend forever.
This week: Jesus walks on water and saves Peter when he begins to sink. Matthew 14:22-33
Insight: RESTORATION
Discipleship Kit:
- Parent Guide – Use this parent guide to help you walk through discipling your preschooler this week
- Story Video – Each week there will be a new Story Video to watch (from Orange Media)
- Memory Verse Video – Your preschooler will learn this month’s memory verse along with hand signals
Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Activity Pages, scissors, craft stick, glue, and crayons
- DO: Give each child a “Disciples in Boat” page to color. When they are done, give them a “Walking Jesus” cutout. Instruct them to color their Jesus cutout then glue it to the end of a craft stick. Next, show the children how to push their “Walking Jesus” through the pre-cut slit from the back of the page. Then show them how to hold the craft stick and make Jesus “walk” by sliding the cutout back and forth.
- SAY: “This is a picture of Jesus’ friends, the disciples. (Give each child a “Disciples in Boat” page.) You can color it. Do you remember who the disciples saw walking on the water when they were in the boat? (Pause.) Yes! They saw Jesus walking on water! (Give each child a “Walking Jesus” cutout and a craft stick.) This is a picture of Jesus. After you color it, I’ll help you glue it to a craft stick. Then we’ll do something really fun with it! (Show the children how to push their “Walking Jesus” through the slit on the back of their page.) Now you can move your Jesus picture so it looks like He is walking on water. Can anyone walk on water? (Pause.) No way. Only Jesus can walk on water! And only Jesus can always be with us, like He was with Peter when He helped Peter get back in the boat after he sank in the water. Our friend, Jesus, was always with Peter, and He is always with us, too. Jesus is the best friend we will ever have, and He wants to be our friend forever! Who wants to be your friend forever? [Bottom Line] Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Yay! [Bottom Line] Jesus wants to be my friend forever!”

Let’s color the fish! (Pause.) Great! Now, let’s color the loaves of bread. (Pause.) Good job! In our story, we heard how Jesus took the five loaves of bread and two fish and fed five thousand people who were listening to Him talk. Jesus and His friends, the disciples, had been working really hard and were ready to rest. But they were met with lots and lots of people who wanted to hear Jesus teach. So, Jesus taught for a long time, and everyone got hungry. Jesus had the disciples go into the crowd to find what food they could. They came back with two fish and five loaves of bread. Jesus prayed over it and it fed all of those people. There was even food left over! Jesus made sure that everyone had food to eat because Jesus is a good friend to everyone. Who can be friends with Jesus? [Bottom Line] Everyone can be friends with Jesus.”

Decorate the gingerbread person to look like you. (Pause.) Great! Glue it to the strip. (Pause.) Now glue the pictures of the disciples to the strip. (Pause.) Super! I’ll measure it to your head and secure it into a headband. (Pause.) In today’s story, we learned about Jesus’ closest friends, the disciples. Peter, Andrew, James, and John were all fishermen. Matthew used to be a tax collector and collected money. They were all very different. Brothers, fishermen, tax collectors—they all came from different places and different families but were friends with Jesus because EVERYONE can be friends with Jesus. They followed Jesus everywhere and saw Him help sick people, feed hungry people, and listen to children. When Jesus went away, they went everywhere telling everyone that they can be friends with Jesus. We can tell our friends that they can be friends with Jesus, too. Who can be friends with Jesus? I see a firefighter’s hat, a farmer’s hat, a police officer’s hat, and a construction worker’s hat. Let’s draw a line to match these community helper hats with the shoes they would wear. Wow, these are all super cool shoes. Look! Everyone’s shoes are different, just like you! What could you do in these shoes? (Pause.) You can do all kinds of cool things in these shoes. And, no matter what kind of shoes you wear, you can be friends with Jesus. In our Bible story, we heard about some men named Peter, Andrew, James, and John. They were fishermen. It will help us spell out the word Love. Put your hand down between these letters. (Press child’s hand down with their fingers in a “V” shape then trace it with a red crayon or marker.) Look at that! Your handprint made the letter V in ‘love.’ Your paper has our memory verse on it. Let’s say it together. ‘Do everything in love,’ 1 Corinthians 16:14. Great job! Everyone can celebrate that Jesus loves them, because Jesus loves everyone. And Jesus wants us to love everyone, too. He wants us to do everything in love. We can love by being kind. Look at your paper. Jesus and Zacchaeus are standing next to a tree. Use your crayons to fill the tree trunk with hearts. (Pause.) Jesus loved Zacchaeus even though he had taken money that didn’t belong to him. Jesus loves us, no matter what. And Jesus loved Zacchaeus, even though he had made bad choices. Jesus is the man in your picture. He was the one who asked her for the drink. He didn’t care that she was from a different town because Jesus loves everyone, no matter where they live. One day, there was a woman who went to the well to get water when a man sat down next to it and asked her for a drink.
