Show children how spread out the sentence strip so the dad and son are far apart then fold it back up so the dad and son are close together.
- SAY: “Today, we heard a story that Jesus told to teach us that God loves, us no matter what! It’s the story of a dad and his son. Take your sentence strip and fold it back and forth like this. (Demonstrate.) Great! Rub the glue stick on one end of the sentence strip and press the picture of the son to it. (Pause.) Now rub the glue stick on the other end of the sentence strip and press the picture of the dad to it. (Pause.) Pull the ends apart like this. (Spread out the sentence strip.) The son took all the money and went far away from home. He spent money on food, clothes, and his friends until there was no money left. He made a lot of bad choices. He didn’t have anywhere to sleep or any food to eat! So he decided to go home. Now fold the strip back together like this. (Demonstrate.) When the dad saw his son walking, he ran to him and hugged him. Then he threw a party to celebrate that his son had come home. The dad loved his son even though he had made bad choices and spent all the money. But God loves us even more than that! God loves us, no matter what! He won’t get mad when we mess up, He wants to forgive us and help us. Jesus tells us this story because He wants us to know that God loves us, no matter what. I’m so glad we have a friend like Jesus to teach us important things. Who teaches me important things? [Bottom Line] Jesus teaches me important things.”

You can use any of the fun papers and glue them on or color with the fun sparkly crayons. (Pause.) Yours is beautiful! Let me help you tape the craft stick to the back of your star. (Pause.) Hold them up high and say, [Bottom Line] ‘God gave us Jesus.’” (Repeat.) We can celebrate Jesus all year, not just at Christmas. Every day is a great day to celebrate Jesus. Today, we heard how the wise men knew that God was sending someone very special, and they wanted to see Him. - SAY: “What letter do you see in the center of the page? (Pause.) Yes, it’s an ‘S’! ‘S’ is for Shepherd. Let’s use our dot markers to cover all the S’s you see on the page. I see a field on your page. Where were the shepherds on the night Jesus was born? (Pause.) They were out in the field, watching over their sheep. That’s right! And what happened? (Pause.) Yes! An angel appeared to tell them that Jesus was born. And then a whole sky full of angels appeared because this was VERY big news! What did the shepherds do when they heard that Jesus was born? (Pause.) That’s right, they ran to see Baby Jesus because they were so excited! You did a great job finding the S’s. ‘S’ is for Shepherd! Glue the picture of Baby Jesus to your ornament. (Pause.) Now color hay under Baby Jesus. This looks fantastic! You can hang it on our tree. We heard how Mary and Joseph had to go all the way to Bethlehem to be counted. It was a long trip and Mary was pregnant, so she rode on a donkey. Once they got there, they tried to find a place to stay but all the rooms in the inn were full! But the nice innkeeper let them stay in his stable with the animals. Something amazing happened in that stable. A very special baby boy was born, and Mary named Him Jesus. ‘J’ is for Jesus. God loves us so much that He gave us Jesus. How do we know God loves us? And what did we learn ‘A’ is for? (Pause.) Angel! Good job! You’re going to turn this letter A into an angel. What do angels have? (Pause.) Wings, that’s right. To give your angel its first wing, we need to trace one hand with this pencil. (Pause.) Now trace your other hand on the other side of the ‘A.’ (Pause.) Fantastic! What sweet angel A’s you made! ‘A’ is for . . . Angel! In our story today, we learned that God loved us way before we were even born! Isn’t that amazing? God loves us so much that He gave us Jesus. God sent an angel to tell Mary that she would have a baby and His name would be Jesus. The angel told her that Jesus would grow up and do amazing things. She made dinner for him every time he came to town. The woman and her husband wanted to help Elisha even more, so they built a room on the roof of their house. This is Elisha's room. (Hold up the blank room.) It doesn't have anything in it. So let's add some furniture! Do you see a picture of a bed? (Pause.) Find a spot in your room and glue it. (Pause.) He also had a desk. Do you see a picture of a table and chair? (Pause.) Find a spot in your room and glue it. (Pause.) There was one more thing: a lamp so he could see. Do you see a picture of a lamp? (Pause.) Glue the lamp somewhere in your room. (Pause.) You did a great job of putting the things in Elisha's room. Elisha was so happy and thankful when he saw his room. Then we can add our family picture inside your frame! In our story today, we learned about a lady named Naomi. Naomi’s husband and sons had died, and she was all alone. She decided to go back to the town where she grew up. Ruth, who had been married to one of her sons, said she would go with her; she would be her family! God gave Naomi family to help her. They walked all the way to the town where Naomi grew up. When they got there, they were so hungry, but didn’t have any food. Ruth saw a field nearby where workers gathered grain. As they gathered the grain, some would fall to the ground. So Ruth went behind the workers and gathered what had fallen to the ground. The owner of the field was Boaz. When he found out she was family, he made sure she had plenty of good food to pick from his garden. Ruth and Naomi said thank you for the family that God gave them to help them. All families look different and all families can take care of each other. Thank you, God, for giving us our families! Who can you thank for everything? [Bottom Line] I can thank God for everything.”

Hold it up to your face and repeat after me. God made me to do big things. (Repeat.) He did, and we can praise God just like David did in our story today. David knew that God made him to do big things, so he celebrated and praised God. David saved a sheep from a lion when he was a shepherd. David battled the giant, Goliath, when others were too afraid, and he knocked him to the ground. When David became king, he helped take care of Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth. God made David to do so many big things, and that’s why David praised God by dancing and making music and singing songs. David praised God because he wanted to say thank you.
