It’s King David, and he invited a man named Mephibosheth to join him at his table. Glue the picture of Mephibosheth to the table. (Pause.) Now fill the king’s table by drawing the different food they would eat. (Pause.) Great job! In our Bible story, we heard about some best friends named David and Jonathan. The friends had to say goodbye, but before they did, David promised Jonathan that he would always take care of his family. Later, David became the king, and he remembered his promise. He sent people to find Jonathan’s family. They found Jonathan’s son, Mephibosheth! He couldn’t walk and needed someone to help him. David gave him land, a place to live, people to take care of him, and he always had a place at the table. David did a very big thing and took care of Mephibosheth. - SAY: “Today, we heard a story about how God helped David do big things when he challenged the giant, Goliath. Let’s make cup toys of David and Goliath. You have a small cup and a big cup. Which of these cups would be David? (Pause). Yes! The small cup would be David. Add this sticker of David to your small cup. (Pause). On the big cup, add the sticker of Goliath. (Pause). Great job! We’ll use these to help us retell the story. Get your Goliath cup. (Pause). Goliath was a big, mean giant who wanted to do mean things to God’s people, the Israelites. Every day, Goliath would tease the Israelites, asking who would challenge him. All of the Israelites were scared of him. No one was brave enough to challenge Goliath until one day, David said he would. Get your David cup. (Pause). Everyone was so surprised, because he was not a soldier. But David knew that God would help him be strong and courageous. David took a slingshot and five small stones then went to challenge Goliath. He said, ‘Goliath, you may have all your big weapons, but God is with me.’ David twirled the slingshot and the rock hit Goliath in the head, and it knocked him down. David saved the Israelites from the mean giant! God made David to do a very big thing! God made you to do big things, too! Who made you to do big things? [Bottom Line] God made me to do big things.”

OCTOBER 10TH PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid . . . for the Lord your God goes with you." Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV
Bottom Line: God made me to do big things.
This week:David trusts that God is with him and has the strength and courage to protect the sheep from a lion. 1 Samuel 17:34-37
Insight: IDENTITY
Discipleship Kit:
- Parent Guide – Use this parent guide to help you walk through discipling your preschooler this week
- Story Video – Each week there will be a new Story Video to watch (from Orange Media)
- Memory Verse Song – Your preschooler will learn this month’s memory verse along with hand signals
Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Activity Page, glue, scissors, craft sticks & crayons
- DO:Give each child a lion, a sheep, and two jumbo craft sticks. Tell them to glue each cutout to a craft stick. Once their lion and sheep stick puppets are ready, review the Bible story using your own set of lion and sheep stick puppets. Encourage the children to follow along with their stick puppets as you review the Bible story. Talk about how God made David to do big things anywhere, even in the middle of a field with sheep.
- SAY: “Come sit with me. I will help you make a lion and a sheep. In our Bible story, David did something really big. He protected his sheep (hold up a complete sheep stick puppet) from a hungry lion. (Hold up a complete lion stick puppet.) Let’s make a lion and a sheep for you. First, I need you to glue this lion to a stick. (Assist when needed.) Now you need to glue this sheep to a stick. (Assist when needed.) There! You have a lion and a sheep like me! Let’s tell the Bible story together using our lion and sheep. Just do what I do. One day, David was in a field watching his sheep. (Make the sheep “walk” around.) David knew taking care of the sheep was a big thing to do, because God made him to do big things, anywhere. While David watched the sheep, a hungry lion came prowling around. (Make the lion “walk” near the sheep.) Oh, no! The lion will try to eat the sheep! Well, David was a good shepherd. He was not going to let a lion hurt his sheep. So he quickly ran to the lion and it ran away. (Make the lion run away.) Yay! David the super shepherd did a very big thing and protected the sheep!” (Make the sheep “dance” around.) God made David to do big things anywhere, even while taking care of sheep in a field. God made us to do big things anywhere, too. It doesn’t matter where we are, God has big things for us to do. So tell me, who made you to do big things? [Bottom Line] God made me to do big things. Again! Who made you to do big things? [Bottom Line] God made me to do big things.”

- Memory Verse Song – Your preschooler will learn this month’s memory verse along with hand signals
Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Activity Page, scissors, binder rings, hole punch & crayons
- DO: Assist the children in cutting the pictures apart. Help them punch holes in the designated areas on each picture and the parent note. Once every child has the “Daniel’s Story Pictures” and a parent note, give them a metal binder ring. Show the children how to put the pictures on their ring, in order, as you review the Bible story. Allow the children to color the pictures. Talk about how God’s power protected Daniel and God’s power can protect us, too.
- SAY: “I will help you make a story ring. It will help you tell Daniel’s story to other people. First, you need these story pictures.” (Give your child a set of the four story pictures.) Look at your pictures and find this one. (Hold up Daniel praying.) This is Daniel. Daniel loved God and prayed to Him every day. Put your Daniel picture on your metal ring like this. (Assist the child when needed.) Now look at your story pictures and find this picture. (Hold up Daniel and King Darius.) This is Daniel and King Darius. Daniel worked for the king. King Darius and Daniel were friends. Put your Daniel and King Darius picture on your metal ring behind your first picture like this. (Show and assist.) Good job! Now find this picture. (Hold up the grumpy guys.) These guys did not want King Darius and Daniel to be friends, so they tricked the king into making a law that said Daniel could not pray to God. If he did, they would throw him into a lions’ den! What did Daniel do? (Pause for response.) He sure did! Daniel prayed to God every day like he always had. Put your grumpy guys picture on your metal ring behind your Daniel and the king picture like this. (Show and assist.) Okay, you have one picture left. Look at the picture and tell me what you see. (Pause for response.) Yes! Daniel and the lions with their mouths close. Daniel is not hurt! God protected Daniel from the lions! Put your Daniel and the lions’ den picture on your metal ring behind the grumpy guys like this. (Show and assist.) God’s power protected Daniel from the lions. God’s power can protect us, too.
