Activities:
- Home Connection
- NEED: Activity Pages, crayons, brads, scissors, and a permanent marker.
- DO: Encourage children to color their pictures. Help put the two papers together and secure them with a brad. Demonstrate how to turn the paper to review the story.
- Say: "You have two pieces of paper. One will be the front and the other is the back. What do you see on this first piece of paper? (Pause.) It’s a picture of the tomb, and there’s an opening. Let’s use brown or gray crayons to color the tomb. (Pause.) Now that you’ve got the front completed, let’s move to the piece of paper for the back. Color each of these pictures. There’s the stone that was rolled in front of the tomb, the empty tomb, and a heart. (Pause.) Let me help you put it together, and I’ll show you how to use it to review our Bible story. (Demonstrate.) As we review our story, I want you to turn it to the right picture. The true story of Easter begins with God’s love for us. Turn to the picture of the heart. God loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus. Jesus came to be our friend forever. But first, something sad had to happen. Jesus was having dinner with His friends when He told them that He would have to go away, but He promised He would come back.” Jesus went to pray in a garden, and some angry people came and took Jesus away. They hurt Jesus, and He died. It was very sad. Jesus’ friends put His body in a tomb, then they rolled a big stone in front of it. Turn to the picture of the big stone. (Pause.) Then on the third day, when some of Jesus’ friends went to the tomb, they saw that the stone had been rolled away and Jesus wasn’t there. Turn to the picture of the open tomb. (Pause.) JESUS came back, just like He said He would! Jesus is alive! Turn to the heart. (Pause.) On Easter, we celebrate because Jesus is alive and He wants to be our friend forever! Who is alive? [Bottom Line] Jesus is alive.”

These look great, but I have something to make your picture really neat. Rub some glue on this part. (Point to the area marked ‘Glue here.’) Put the picture of Jesus here. (Help children line up their pictures.) Now for the neat part. (Fold their paper so Jesus on the donkey pops ups.) Wow! So neat! In our Bible story, we heard how Jesus was coming to the town of Jerusalem and everyone was so excited! They took off their coats and laid them on the ground with palm branches so Jesus would have a special path. Some people held palm branches and waved them in the air. They were all ready to celebrate. Jesus was riding a donkey on the path. When the people saw Him, they waved their branches and said, ‘Hosanna! Hosanna! YAY, JESUS!’ The people were so excited to celebrate Jesus because Jesus is so special! We can celebrate Jesus, too, because Jesus is so special and Jesus is alive! Who is alive? [Bottom Line] Jesus is alive.”

Jesus was teaching those people and more! That’s a lot of people, and they were getting hungry. A young boy offered his lunch to Jesus to help feed all the people. The boy had two fish. Draw your two fish near the boy’s basket. (Pause.) Great! He also had five loaves of bread. Draw five loaves of bread next to your basket. (Pause.) Great job! Jesus took those two fish and five loaves of bread and prayed and thanked God for the food. Then He gave everyone food to eat, all 5,000 people. There were enough leftovers to fill twelve baskets! Amazing! Jesus is amazing! He helped a lot of people that day by feeding them. You can love like Jesus by helping and sharing, too. Who can love like Jesus? [Bottom Line] I can love like Jesus.”

- Say: "Do you know what this is? (Hold up a speech bubble.) It’s called a ‘speech bubble’! You might see it sometimes in cartoons or pictures. We are going to use these to help us remember today’s Bible story. Your speech bubble says, ‘I can love like Jesus by using kind words.’ Are kind words loud or mean? (Pause.) No. Do kind words make you feel good? (Pause.) They do! What are some kind words we can say? (If desired, write the child’s kind word(s) on their bubble.) Those are fantastic kind words! And when you use kind words like that, you are loving like Jesus! Flip your bubble over and glue the craft stick on so you can hold it up like this. (Demonstrate.) Super! (Add a piece of tape to secure the stick.) Flip it over to the front and glue some confetti on your bubble. (Pause.) These are great. Hold them up and tell me who can love like Jesus? [Bottom Line] I can love like Jesus. Yes, you can! Put your speech bubbles down and listen. In our story today, we heard about the sick woman. She had seen lots of doctors, but none could heal her. She had heard Jesus could make sick people better, so she decided to try to see Him. She saw Jesus in the crowd, reached out, and touched His clothes. And just like that, she was healed! Isn’t that amazing? But Jesus turned and asked who had touched His clothes. She thought she was in trouble but told Jesus she did it. And Jesus was gentle and kind. Work the puzzle and glue it to your big paper. (Pause.) Look at your puzzle pieces. Three pieces have pictures of ways to love like Jesus but one is blank. You can think of different ways to love others and fill in that piece with your family. Now let’s make some confetti to decorate your paper. Take some tissue paper and tear it into small pieces.
